Outreach and Education

Our outreach and education programme is aimed at schools and community groups. Inter-generational links can be re-established through creative projects focusing on our heritage and histories.

Cheetwood Community Primary School

A group of Year 5 children from Cheetwood Primary in Cheetham came to see our exhibition at People’s History Museum, Manchester in January 2018. They designed decorative frames for some of the portraits in the show, as well as completing a quiz and taking part in drama based on the images.

Manchester Community Academy

A group of Year 8 pupils from Manchester Community Academy came to visit our exhibition at People’s History Museum in Manchester in January 2018. They completed a quiz about the show, produced some line drawings from the photographs and took part in drama based on the images.

Riverview Primary School Art Project

We invited a class group from Year 4 to visit the exhibition at Salford Museum and Art Gallery. The children drew directly from the portrait wall to develop a character for their school art project to create a Pop Up Cheetham Hill Road.

Riverview Primary School Pop Up Shops

The children selected shop fronts to design and shop keeper characters, based on the image archive. They  improvised scripts for their characters between the shopkeepers and the shop’s customers.

Salford Schools Memory Project

Our school photographs have been a very popular section of the exhibition, drawing lots of comments and memories. Have a look at our Schools section – you may even find yourself as a pupil, like our volunteer Barbera did.

Pop Up Community Project at Salford Museum and Art Gallery

Artist Marie Cash worked with our Outreach Worker, Dave Rooney, and visiting children on a Pop Up art project during Summer 2016.

Cheetham Hill Memory Project at Salford Museum and Art Gallery

We are using the photographs in the collection to build up a picture of the area during the 1950s and 60s. The area has changed a lot since then, and these workshops aim to record and preserve people’s memories, through collecting oral histories and identifying buildings and places shown in the collection.

Get in touch with the Project Team to arrange for us to visit your group with our collection of photographs.
