The collection arrived in its original boxes, most of which hadn’t been opened for decades and were full of dust and dirt. We invited Photographic Conservation specialist, Lorraine Finch, to appraise the collection and, later, to run training courses on handling, cleaning and rehousing the negatives for our staff and volunteers.

Since January 2015 we’ve cleaned 8,000 images and are in the process of cataloguing them all. If you would like to help up then get in touch. You can either add information to to the cataloguing by researching or adding your memories, or you can get involved – check out our Volunteering section.
