About the Curiosities Category

We have included this category to place all the photographs which didn’t easily fit in a series. However we do actually think they make a fascinating collection altogether.

They show some advertisements, for example there’s a gruesome image of a skull which may have been for an early no smoking campaign, as the first health authority Smoking Withdrawal Clinic was established in Salford in 1958.

If you have any memories of any places or photographs shown, please send them to us and contribute to our memory book to help us identify the photographs.

We’ve also included photographic copies of paintings and an example of hand illustrated photographs from the turn of the 20th century.
