About the Furniture Category

Furniture was a booming industry in the post war period as mass-production of goods for the home and domestic markets was boosting economic growth at the time. In Cheetham Hill particularly, furniture production was one of the industries that made it a growing and successfully commercial area as well as a residential one.

The images in our collection would have been taken for promotional purposes, showing the latest furniture lines, such as the ‘Relaxatese’ suite. When you look through the images you will see the original photograph, often taken outside where the light was best, and then also the image appears against a white background as its being prepared for a catalogue.
